Santa's Workshop - Families First

Santa's Workshop is an opportunity for children to purchase Christmas gifts for their family. The event takes place November 25 from noon to 7:00 pm (2 hour shifts). Elves (youth/ teens) help children choose gifts for family members and Gift Wrappers wrap the gifts that the children have purchased.

Operation Red Nose (ORN)

Operation Red Nose is a service that provides rides home to people who have been drinking and who do not want to drive impaired. ORN volunteers are dispatched in teams of three (driver, navigator and escort car). The program operates the last weekend in November and Fridays and Saturdays in December including New Years Eve. Applications can be completed at the RCMP Detachment. Two pieces of ID required. Operation Red Nose is organized by the Rotary Club of Fort Saskatchewan.

Snow Angels

Share your time as a Snow Angel. This Program is a volunteer service where individuals, organizations, businesses, classrooms, families, and groups of youth can commit to removing snow from the driveway and entrance way of a community resident in need throughout the winter season.

Habitat for Humanity - women build volunteer week

November 28th - December 2nd (Shifts are from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm)

Habitat for Humanity is calling all women to help us build homes during Women Build Volunteer Week! No construction skills are required - just a willingness to lend a hand and share of your time and energy.

We need 100 women volunteers (age 18+) to build at both our Fort Saskatchewan (and Carter Place  in south Edmonton) build sites.

  1. Beginners to Trades people are welcome!
  2. We provide all safety equipment and training, tools, orientation and lunch
  3. Free Tool Training Workshops* are available (Nov 4, 17, and 25)

*the workshop is not a prerequisite to volunteering

Community Hospital Inpatient Unit Visiting

Tuesday and Friday shifts available at 9:00 am, Thursday and Friday available at 1:00 pm shifts

Community Hospital - ER Volunteer (Emergency Room)

Share your time as you provide support to the patient and/or companions under the direction of the health care team. Duties may include talking with patients and families, directing families to the coffee shop or other areas of the hospital, getting warm blankets for patients, tidy room and more. Time Commitment: Friday and Saturday shifts available from 1:00 pm - 4:00pm

Community Hospital Gift Shop Attendant

The Community Hospital is looking for volunteers to help at the Hospital Gift Shop particularly on weekends and evenings. Time Commitment: Shifts are Mon-Friday 10:00 am -1:00 pm; 1:00 pm -4:00 pm and 4:00 -7:00 pm.

Restorative Justice Program

The Restorative Justice Program is seeking committed volunteers for their program. If you have a passion for youth or would like to help people resolve conflict (including conflict with the law; neighborhood disputes or bullying issues), this volunteer program may be right for you! Time Commitment: Committee meeting once per month  and two client sessions. Training is provided. Check out the website

Restorative Justice Program - Co-Facilitator for M.A.C. Group

The Restorative Justice Program  is seeking a co- facilitator to help with the M.A.C. Group (Men Achieving Change). The M.A.C. Group is a free drop-in support group for men to engage with other men in the community and work towards building personal change. The M.A.C. goal is to help support men through the challenges they face and encourage them to be great husbands, dads, brothers and men.

Boys and Girls Club Board Member

The Boys and Girls Club is a nonprofit youth serving organization that has worked with children, youth and families for 27 year. The Volunteer Board Members oversee the Boys and Girls Club Program.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is building 8 duplexes along Canyon Road in the Sienna community in Fort Saskatchewan. Individuals and groups are welcome. Shifts are daily Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. All volunteers receive an onsite safety orientation and training. No minimum number of shifts required. Beginners are welcome! Christmas Hamper Campaign

The Christmas Hamper Campaign will soon be underway. Volunteers collect donations at the Christmas Hamper Depot which opens at CO-OP on November 27. The Depot is open Monday to Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Hamper Delivery Day will be December 16. Time Commitment: Collecting donations are two hour shifts with two people per shift. The volunteer sign-up sheet will be available on November 28 at the CO-OP or you can stop by the Food Bank (9803- 102 Street)  to add your name to the sign-up volunteer list.

New Year's Eve in the Fort

This Family Festival Sunday, December 31 (5:00 pm - 8:00 pm) will be at the Fort and Museum Grounds.

  • Prior to the event, (November / December) there are preparations needed for the event. This may include, cutting paper hats, stuffing gift bags, adding candy to bags and more.
  • On the December 31 (afternoon for 3 hours), volunteer assistance is needed to set up stations indoors  and outdoors.
    • These duties may include craft stations (indoors), teen zone, warmingstations, snow shovelling (outdoors) and more.
  • During the event (5:00 - 8:00 pm) volunteer assistance is needed at the various stations and at the end the evening (7:45 pm), help is needed to clean -up.

Families First Society

Families First was created in 1996; this organization works in partnership with other community agencies and organizations to promote positive parenting and child development and to build family strengths.

Some volunteer opportunities at Families First include:

  • Child Programming - involves being in a supervisory role, being a mentor/teacher/leader to all children present. Child programming requires volunteers to have experience with trauma informed care or work due to the sensitive nature of our programs.
  • Clerical Assistance - Help with thank you letters and follow -up correspondence with donors and sponsors (good English oral and written communication skills; proficient computer skills in Word and Excel as volunteer would be compiling a - database of names to send out letters, etc.)
  • Seasonal duties (shovelling snow in winter)
  • Special Events and Fundraising Volunteers (sporadic throughout the year)
  • Board Members - Treasurer (financial background or keen interest in finance/budgeting/numbers)
  • Janitorial Assistance - cleaning washrooms, mopping floors, vacuuming etc. (once or twice per week - possibly mornings 7:45 am -8:30 pm)

Volunteer Programs Association (VPA) Board Member

The VPA oversees the Victim Services Unit, Restorative Justice Program and the Volunteer Centre. Share your time and expertise as a VPA a Board Member. Time Commitment: Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Dr. Turner Lodge

Share your time and talents helping senior residents at Dr. Turner Lodge.

  • Evening & weekend bingos
  • Birthday Party (3rd Thursday of the month)
  • Large family special events (eg.100 year birthday parties for residents)
  • Horse Racing game
  • Entertainment for singsong (playing the guitar, piano or leading a sing-song)

Kidsport Board Member

KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports. KidSport provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport. KidSport in Fort Saskatchewan is looking for Board Members (Secretary, Application Assistant, Equipment Coordinator)  to help with their program. Time commitment: Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Rivercrest Care Centre

There are many on-going volunteer opportunities available at Rivercrest. Some of these volunteer opportunities include being a friendly visitor, playing Bingo (afternoons or evenings), playing board game (afternoons), being a  mealtime assistant, helping with outings, special events (birthday parties) and more.

Special Transportation Services Society (STSS) Board Member

Special Transportation Services Society (STSS) is a group of dedicated community volunteers who oversee the operation of the Subsidized Transportation Services. The Board oversees Driving Miss Daisy and the Handivan Program. Other activities of the Board include fundraising for a new van, decision making with the screening process and more. Time commitment: Meetings are the third Tuesday of the month 9:30 am - 11:00 am

Furniture Bank Board Member

Share your time as you become a volunteer board member for the Furniture Bank. Board members attend meetings ,plan events and coordinates with volunteers for moves.

Furniture Bank

The Furniture Bank is a non-profit group providing gently used donations of furniture and household items to residents in need.

  • Movers - volunteer help is needed to deliver gently used furniture to clients and pick up donations of gently used furniture. Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per month or on an on-call basis. Volunteer would need  be able to lift 30 lb boxes and help move couches or beds but no large appliances. Having a truck or a utility trailer would be a bonus but is not necessary.
